Independent General Election Candidate to host series of Public Meetings across Laois

Elaine Mullally, a well known married mother of two and businesswoman from Portarlington has officially announced her candidacy for the upcoming general election.

Elaine’s candidacy is deeply rooted in her concern for Co. Laois’s future and its people’s. Reflecting on her motivation, she shared, “One day, I looked out the window and asked my husband, ‘Would we have room for two log cabins in the garden?’ I was genuinely worried about where our kids would be able to live in the future. Housing is a major issue, not just for the country, but especially for Laois.”

Elaine is also determined to address the broader challenges facing Ireland today. She is particularly committed to supporting young Irish expatriates who wish to return from countries like Australia and Canada. “I’m eager to help our young Irish expats return home and build their lives here. They should have the opportunity to live and thrive in their own country,” she said.

On immigration, Elaine expressed concern about the current government’s handling of the issue. “The government has completely lost control of our borders,” she stated. “We need a sensible and balanced approach to immigration that serves the best interests of the people of Ireland.”

Her commitment to Laois extends beyond housing and immigration. Elaine is acutely aware of the growing strain on healthcare services in the county. “With a rising population, the lack of GPs and dentists is only going to become more acute. We need to take proactive steps to ensure our communities have access to essential healthcare services,” she emphasised.

Elaine’s campaign is also focused on the everyday struggles that people in Laois face. “I see first-hand how the cost of living is impacting families,” Elaine said. “We need to address these challenges head-on and rebuild a sense of community in our towns and villages. Laois can achieve more, and I’m committed to making that happen.”

In 2008 Elaine set up her family business in Portarlington and has been a vocal campaigner on the rising costs of insurance and electricity, which she believes are driving many SMEs to the brink.

Known for her authenticity and straightforward approach, Elaine is determined to bring integrity, transparency and accountability to the political system. “I am not afraid to speak the truth, and I want to be a voice for Laois in the Dáil,” she declared.

As she embarks on her campaign, Elaine will be hosting a series of public meetings across Co. Laois. These meetings are designed not just for her to speak, but to listen to the concerns of her constituents. “My public meetings are less about me talking and more about hearing the deep-held concerns of the people of Laois. I want to ensure that I am truly representing their interests on the ground,” Elaine explained.
